FAQs
Delivery
I deliver throughout Dorset, Wiltshire and Somerset, but will deliver further afield if needed - I even travel to London frequently (cakes travel remarkably well!). Delivery costs will apply and will depend on travel time. Local set up charges are £40 for 5 miles within Shaftesbury, Dorset. Further venues will be quoted for you. Delivery costs include delivery and set-up, as well as liaising with your venue, florist, etc so that you have nothing to worry about on the day.
Wedding cake collection
For tiered wedding cakes, I strongly recommend opting for delivery, and in some cases I will insist on this as I'll need to set up your cake at the venue. For single tiered cakes and most celebration cakes, you can collect from my North Dorset studio free of charge.
Wedding consultation and cake tasting
Since March 2020, I’ve been running online consultations, which have been working brilliantly! You’ll receive 5 delicious cake tasters in the post to enjoy at home and we’ll hop on a video call to discuss all the details of your cake.
Consultations are a complimentary part of your wedding cake, however I require £30 to confirm your consultation, which will then be deducted from your wedding cake booking. An online consultation typically lasts half an hour.
If you're looking for wedding cake ideas, it can be useful to share invitations/save the date card, swatches of your dress or flower lists from your florist to help the design process, plus any photos of cakes you love.
Cake flowers
I specialise in sugar flowers, but I also work a lot with fresh flowers and these can bring the cost down. I don't supply fresh flowers, but your florist will be able to supply these. Just let them know, or put us in direct contact with each other and we'll handle everything. Please note that only edible or food-safe fresh flowers can be used on cakes. I will be happy to liaise with your florist to confirm a flower list in advance of your wedding day to ensure full safety.
If you’re looking to use edible flowers on your cake, I can source these from an organic specialist farm and will provide a quote based on your design.
Cake flavours
I offer a range of signature cake flavours, the most popular being lemon & lavender, white chocolate & raspberry and red velvet. Check out my other flavours here, but if there's something special you're after that you don't see here, just let me know and I will create it for you (I love a challenge!). Remember, you don't have to limit yourself to one flavour - each tier can be different.
Dietary requirements
I can cater for all dietary requirements, including gluten-free, vegan, eggless, dairy-free, nut-free. Please note, however, that I handle all ingredients and allergens in my studio.
Cake portions
For weddings and similar events, I estimate number of portions using 1x2 inch servings for sponge cakes and 1x1 inch servings for fruit cake. If you're serving the cake for dessert, or just fancy bigger portions, let me know and I can advise on how much cake you'll need. Bear in mind that my cakes are taller than average, with 4 layers of sponge in each tier. Cutting cake is also an option to increase the number of portions.
Wedding Cake Prices
All my designs are bespoke, so it will greatly depend on the type of cake you order, and the decoration. As a guide, 3-tier wedding cake prices start at £420 for naked cakes, and £520 for fondant-covered cakes (before decoration).
I can provide both affordable wedding cakes and more luxury wedding cakes, so if you're watching the pennies, I can discuss all options with you at your consultation.
A 20% deposit will be required to secure your date once the final design is agreed. If you’d like to secure your wedding date before a final design and price is agreed, you can do so with a deposit of £75.
When should I order my cake?
As all of Caked's cakes are created by Claire, Caked has limited availability, especially for popular summer dates. Therefore, it's recommended to order as soon as you can to secure your date, but try to order at least 6 months in advance. If you need it sooner, then please do still get in touch as I may still be able to help you.
For celebration cakes, again the earlier the better especially during the summer, but at least a week in advance is advised. I make all cakes to order, so require time to ensure I have all ingredients and materials to create your dream cake.
How long will my cake keep?
All cakes will keep a few days. Store them in an airtight container to keep them as fresh as possible. All cakes freeze really well, meaning you can enjoy your cake even longer (up to 3 months). Be aware that fondant covered cakes should not be refrigerated!
Fruit cake keeps even longer, and you can store in an airtight container for up to a year.
